What do you want people to know about life in Muncie?

 

The Middletown Documenters Gallery serves as snapshot of life in Muncie, Indiana in 2025 through the eyes and ears of its residents and visitors. 

What do you see in Muncie's spaces and places?

You do not have to be a seasoned photographer or videographer to submit photos and personal video footage.

What happens to your content? 

We'll review your images and content, place them in our gallery here and/or include in the 'Facing Middletown' documentary and/or book. 

Your work will be cited to you as you wish. 

Here are some rules of the road. 

 

Rules for submission:

1. Keep it simple. Before you start rolling ask yourself:

What story do you want to tell? 

Capture parts of your life, a routine, or ritual in your places. The stories can be joyful, harrowing, or they can simply capture life with your children and neighbors. 

Is there an interesting person or something you want to share and not sure how to capture it? 

Reach out at facingmiddletown@facingproject.com  we can give you some pointers.  It is not necessary to do extra work to engineer an experience.  Please capture people and things as they are. 

*Important: Please get the consent of anyone whose face is included in your photograph or footage. If a minor/minors, please fill out a minor release form.  Thank you. 

 

2. If you're in a public place and capturing footage, please try to avoid recording faces of people in the crowd without their consent. (Please record and capture photographs in crowds from behind.) 

If you are speaking to the camera, please do your best to reduce peripheral noise and speak clearly. 

 

3. This is a community-compilation documentary, and it is important to properly cite your work, please include the following:

'Caption' 

First and last name 

(Submissions can be cited as anonymous) 

Place: Location and date

Description: One or two sentences describing your story in the context of life in Muncie in 2025.  

List of people whose faces are in your video or photograph (please include their names and ages) 

 

4. Please only submit photos and videos that are captured in 2025.

'Facing Middletown' aims to capture life in Muncie, Indiana in 2025. Photographs from any other period of time cannot be accepted. 

 

5. Please submit either color or black and white photos and videos that are raw and unedited. Video footage should be 2 minutes or less.  

Photos and videos with filters, text, or AI content and cannot be accepted. Professional photography can have a small watermark in the lower right corner. All content will be cited. 

 

6. Please select the highest resolution option when submitting. 

We know not all images can be shot in high resolution, so please select the highest quality resolution possible.  Capture from any recording device, your camera, or phone.
